There are many types of flat roof coverings and as always some are better than others. When it comes to replacing your flat roof the best thing to consider is the cost. All flat roofs have a different cost and this should be considered when replacing your flat roof. Below is a list of the different flat roofs we supply and fits.
In my opinion, the best flat roof on the market is GRP flat roof. They are the most expensive but when fitted correctly they will last around 40-50 years.
We have fit Glass Reinforced Plastic roofs for over 25 years and we have never been called back to repair or replace anyone we have fitted. Grp roofs can be fitted on all kinds of flat roofs, from a small bay roof to an office block. We only use cureit grp as this company supplies the best grp products on the market. When we fit a new roof we remove the old roof and upgrade the insulation to the correct standard needed. We then use an OSB-3 board and lay them with a 25mm air gap so the roof can breathe.
We then apply a layer of resin directly onto the boards as this protects the OSB-3 boards from any damage and seals them too. When it comes to matting we use 450 gsm and we lay the matting with 2 coatings of resin, which helps to soak through the matting and leaves a glass look finish. After the resin has dried a light sanding is needed before adding the top coat. Cureit top coat comes in many colors and our customers can pick which color will blend in best with their home. All our grp flat roofs come with a 20 years guarantee.
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (M-class), or EPDM, is a synthetic rubber that is extremely durable and used across a variety of applications
We also use OSB-3 boards when fitting EPDM roofs as the glue used sticks to these style boards very well. After fitting the boards the rubber should be laid on top of the roof and left to relax for 24 hours. After this, we pull the rubber back and use a Water-Based Adhesive to stick the main area down. All the air needs to be removed from under the rubber so no air bubbles are left. We use a contact adhesive around the edge to provide a strong bond. Contact Adhesive is a super-strong, instant-grab glue. It can be used with any surface but must be applied to both faces to be bonded. Then we apply the edge trims to finish off the flat roof. EPDM roofs last around 20-25 years and we give a 15 years guarantee with these roofs.
Torch on felt can be a great addition to any flat roof and I believe this is the second-best flat roof product. We use Rose torch on felt which is the best on the market and Rose felt gives a 15-year manufacturer's warranty with their torch on felt. We also use OSB-3 boards with our torch on felt as these are the best boards on the market. Torch on felt sometimes gets a bad name but this is all down to the materials used. When we fit a torch on felt roof we use 3 layers in total. We put 2 layers of 4mm each layer of base and 1 6mm layer of mineral. With this amount of layers, I can easily see this roof lasting for 20-25 years.
